Glennwood Farm, the breeders of Triple Crown winner Justify, will offer two Grade 1 producers at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale, an unusual step for the operation that Tanya Gunther says reflects a natural reduction of their broodmare band.
Atomic Blonde, the dam of this year’s Preakness winner Napoleon Solo, is in foal to Flightline. Wildwood Rose, the dam of Grade 1 winner Leslie’s Rose, is carrying a full sibling to that filly by Into Mischief.
“We don’t normally offer Grade 1 producers, but we thought we’d try something different this year,” Gunther told Nick Luck at Keeneland. “We’re doing kind of a natural reduction, because we’ve retired a bunch of mares off the track over the last year and a half, so we just thought we might bring these two mares to the market.”

The timing could hardly be better for Atomic Blonde, with Napoleon Solo entered at the Breeders’ Cup this week. “He’s entered in probably the Classic, or the Mile, but we think the Classic,” Gunther said.
She believes Fasig-Tipton’s November Sale, just days after the Breeders’ Cup meeting, is the right stage for mares of this quality. “Fasig is really a top sale for those star horses, particularly coming off the Breeders’ Cup race mares, but also top broodmares that are kind of household names with the progeny they’ve had,” she said. “Fasig really tries to bring stars to the market, and it’s the place that top breeders want to be to buy stock.”
